I have a few years of project management experience, I am about to finish a course in project management, and I’m thinking about taking the PMP exam. Typically, would 2 or 3 months be enough time to study with a prep book and pass?

I would say that 3 months would be enough time to study for a PMP exam (obviously depending on which one you go for).

If you need more help with exam prep then take a look over at this site for a free PMP practice test with some great questions for studying..
